General Guide & Care Notes for
Breeders and Owners of Pet Birds
Ornamental birds need a variety of different foods for
a healthy and balanced diet.
We make 11 different rations, as well as offering 21
straight seeds which you can add to your mixtures if
your collection needs them. Listed below are the main
rules for keeping healthy birds. If you wish to breed
from your birds, we suggest that you speak to members
of your local bird club, or buy one of the many excellent
books available on the subject.
* You will need adequate supplies of clean water,
changed daily, in a container suitable for your birds.
Quails and similar ground dwelling birds will obviously
need a different container to finches.
* You will need to supply a suitable source of
calcium such as Cuttlefish Bones.
* A well formulated and cleaned seed mix will
never be a complete diet for any ornamental bird.
We have created a range of products which act as a sound
nutritional basis for you. The seeds themselves contain
adequate amounts of Vitamins A, D & E, but other major
vitamins particularly Vitamin C, should be added as
either fresh fruit or by using a reputable liquid dietary
supplement.
* In a mixed collection, make certain that all
the birds have suitable perches near to the food, and
that there are enough seed hoppers to prevent bullying
of the more timid species by the bolder ones.
* Draughts and damp are hazardous to your birds
, so it is important to take care when siting a cage
or aviary.
* It's possible to keep many different species
of birds together in mixed collections, & often
better to mix birds together than have large numbers
of a single species. However, before buying a new species,
do your homework & check that they will happily
live with your existing birds.
Listed below are the specialist mixtures
we supply.

reformulated with a blend of 7 different grains to give
added variety in one mix. The mixture contains Canaryseed,

Oats and White Millet.
CANARY MIXTURES
Our formulations rely on the traditional
mix of two parts Canaryseed to one part Rapeseed. Our
three mixtures change according to the useage of Black
Rapeseed or Red Rapeseed. Red Rapeseed is Black Rapeseed
which has been treated with sulphur to make it more
digestible & acceptable to canaries. The seed is
gentler and less likely to make the birds go light.
Popular Mixed Canaryseed
: 60% Plain Canary, 35% Red Rapeseed with Linseed, Hempseed,
Niger and Yellow Biscuit.
Favourite Mixed Canaryseed :
60% Plain Canary, 35% Black Rapeseed with Linseed, Hempseed,
Niger and Yellow Biscuit.
Fancy Mixed Canaryseed : 55% Plain
Canary, 20% Black Rapeseed, 20% Red Rapeseed with Hempseed,
Niger and Linseed. (NB: This mixture does not contain
the traditional yellow biscuit.)

It contains Canaryseed, Nigerseed, Red Millet, Panicum
Millet, White Millet, Black Rapeseed and Whole Linseed.

Finchseed, so it can be fed easily in conjunction
with our Cage Bird Condition Seed to give added
variety and flavour.

Panicum and 30% White Millet
ABZ Mixture : Specifically
formulated for Australian, Bengalese and Zebra Finches.

CONDITIONING & TONIC SEEDS:
Budgie Tonic Mix Type 22
: Contains 55% Japanese Millet which is very high
in fat and it also contains the essential proteins needed
for growth. An extremely good mixture to feed to breeding
birds who will then feed this to the chicks. The mixture
is flavoured with Aniseed as an attractant, & is
also an excellent choice for British and Foreign Finches.
Contains: 55% Jap Millet with Red
Millet, Hempseed, Nigerseed, Panicum, Naked Oats and
flavoured with Aniseed Oil.
Scottish Tonic : Specifically formulated
for Budgerigars and smaller Parrot Likes, this mixture

conditioning mixture.

Mawseed, Nigerseed, Linseed, Red Rapeseed, Perilla Seed
and Gold of Pleasure.
Seed For Soaking : This mixture
is specificly for Canaries and Finches. The freshly
germinated seeds provide required vitamins through the
germinating seed & are extremely digestible. To
get the seeds to germinate, soak the seeds for at least
6 to 12 hours at room temperature whilst constantly
changing the water and then allow to germinate for 24
to 48 hours in germinating trays. Use of an airing cupboard
for a high humidity can be utilised either that or put
the seeds on top of a radiator and cover the germination
tray with a wet cloth.
Contains: Canaryseed, Jap Millet,
Black Rapeseed, Hempseed, Naked Oats and White Millet.
